I’ve used Rakuten since 2019, but this and last year have been terrible. Every time I try to buy using PayPal, I get sent back to the start or see errors like “no permission.” I’ve cleared cache, reinstalled, and even contacted support — nothing helped. It’s frustrating, even when cashback is good. Thinking of switching to a more reliable app.

Update: too many ineligible purchases. Verbage is tricky for conditions. makes it sound like you should get cash back, but then inquire and oh nope its another ineligible purchase. Won't honor cash back even when in their own words says you should. They probably won't even correct the conditions where I pointed out the error stating ... Groceries ineligible UNLESS delivered from store. Site has become shady and bucks with cash back anymore. terrible in my opinion.

Thank you for this feedback. A merchant may disqualify a purchase or a portion of a purchase for Cash Back if there are returns, exchanges, or cancellations on any part of the order. Every one of our partnered merchants also have their own Cash Back Terms that may exclude certain items, departments, or other things from earning Cash Back.

The app works or it doesn't. Rakuten in general is great, especially with the desktop add-on. The app only works correctly sometimes. I've reinstalled and cleared cache and it still only partly works. Sometimes I can't get into any profile/account info. Sometimes the biometrics don't work. Currently I can't see any history, it shows my last trip was 2023 (which is not true.)

Thank you for this feedback. The biometrics function is a feature of your phone. Once activated, our app may take advantage of it to verify your identity when accessing certain parts of our app. You can find a complete list of all Shopping Trips under the My Account (the person icon) section.
