Used to be an excellent app but the podcast section is now borderline unusable. As a paid subscriber I now get the ads version of every podcast, not the ad-free version I'm supposed to get. I know I'm not alone. I've also been unfollowed from every podcast, and had to manually re-follow them. Some aren't even searchable via the app and I had to Google them to find them again. It's all very shoddy for a paid subscription service, and the Athletic have made zero effort to communicate about it.

The articles and writing are great, and there are some really great podcasts. The new robotic voice they've recently introduced at the start of podcasts is very cringe worthy. The number of ads in an app that I have a paid subscription for is annoying too. downgraded this another star as they've put in more ads

Horrified by the introduction of adverts to podcasts - I was well on the way to cancelling after they didn't replace the beat reporter for my football club, but ad-free podcasts had become one of the only things I used the app for. Now that's gone, I feel like I might as well uninstall. Which makes me sad as there used to be lots of good content - now the amount of content is less than half of what it was, and there are ads everywhere.
